michel desneiges, capitolThe NBELS creates working groups in order to study the current state of environmental law as well as law reform initiatives in New Brunswick. Since its inception in 2005, the NBELS has also been outspoken on a number of environmental issues via the media and other forums. The society often works in collaboration with other citizens' groups and environmental organizations to focus attention on important matters.

Conferences

juge bastaracheThe NBELS periodically organizes conferences and workshops for the general public and it offers its own continuing legal education program for lawyers.  The first activity hosted by the society was the Sustainable Development Law Conference at Université de Moncton with the participation of Justice Michel Bastarache of the Supreme Court of Canada. More recently the NBELS toured the province with its environmental investigations workshop.

Support for students

Ève St-LaurentEvery year the NBELS supports law students by offering its Environmental Law Clinic Program.  Founded in 2007, the clinic provides students with theoretical and practical educational experiences.  The NBELS also offers scholarships to dedicated students.
