New Brunswick Environmental Law Society (NBELS) The New Brunswick Environmental Law Society (Société pour l'avancement du droit de l'environnement Inc.) is a non profit organization dedicated to the advancement of environmental law and the protection of the natural environment in the province of New Brunswick, Canada. Officially launched in 2007, the Society works with environmental organizations, individuals and local governments and it functions as a think tank for the generation of new ideas in the area of environmental law. The NBELS also conducts research and offers legal services and educational opportunities on these matters. The NBELS distinguishes itself in the area of environmental law by its mission, which seeks to contribute to a better understanding of environmental law for the benefit of environmental organizations, the general public and other non-legal organizations and institutions.
Also, the NBELS supports university students interested in environmental law via its Environmental Law Clinic Program.
Membership within the Society is open to the public.
A Board of Directors governs the NBELS. The Chairperson is Neil Gardner. Michel DesNeiges is the supervising counsel and director of the NBELS Environmental Law Clinic. Committees include a legal advisory committee and a community outreach committee.
